Canadian Doctors for Medicare hosted a celebration of Medicare in Canada. The speakers included Roy Romanow, former Saskatchewan Premiere and Commissioner on Health Care in Canada. They tell Americans that Canadian universal health care works and encourage Americans to implement a single payer universal health care system. The video also features Dr. Steven Lewis a health policy and research consultant, Dr. Danielle Martin, Dr. Ryan Meili and Dr. Robert Woolard representing the Canadian Doctors for Medicare and Linda Silas President of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions.

You be the judge on this video? Do you think Americans should adopt Canada’s Health Care System.

Its that time of the year again, allergy season. Around this time of the year my allergies is at its worst. I run out and buy boxes of Claritin. Lets just say I spent $30 on a box of Claritin and maybe go through 2 boxes per month. Three months later, I would spent over $60 x 3 = $180. (With After Tax Dollars)

Well, here is the good news. Reactin can now be prescribed and dispensed at a Pharmacy. My wife has an extended health plan at work so part of it is covered by insurance. The remaining portion I run through a Private Health Service Plan.

Hope this tip can help some of you save money.

Ontario Residents pays GST and PST differently then other princes on Private Health Service Plans

For the Private Health Service Plan or Health and Welfare Trust, the GST and PST for Ontario residents is different than other provinces.

Lets say the total claim is $1,000. In most provinces there is a 10% admin fee of $100 and 5% GST on the $100 which is $5. For a total of $1105 is what the sponsoring company will be sending a cheque to Stratusmax Health as their third party administrator.

In Ontario for the same $1,000 claim here is how the taxes are broken down:

PST – 8% of the total claim plus admin fee = $88

Premium Tax – 2% on total claim plus admin fee = $22

GST – 5% on admin fee $5

For a total of $1215 is what the sponsoring company will be sending a cheque to Stratusmax Health as their third party administrator.

In either case the Claimant will get a refund for $1000 which is a non taxable benefit. The sponsoring company will get a receipt for the entire amount that can be written off by the company.

If you are a self employed individual and knew you could fill out some paperwork, attach it with your receipts and submit it for a tax refund would you do it?

The obvious answer is YES!

You be crazy not to do it.

If you are self employed and have dental and medical expenses you have paid for out of pocket with after tax dollars would you fill out some paper work and attach it with a claim form – submit it to your company – and get some of your money back?

The obvious answer is YES!

Again, why wouldn’t you do it.

A PHSP and HAWP will allow you as a self employed individual to get back some of your dental and medical expenses. If you are not incorporated the maximum is $4500 per year for your family. And if you are incorporated there are no limits as long as you meet the Canada Revenue agency Requirements.

Lets say if you knew you could file your income tax and get a $3000 tax refund you would do it in a heart beat. If you don’t then you just threw away $3,000.

If you have $10,000 in medical expenses and do not have a PHSP or HAWP – then you could be throwing away around $3000 out the door depending on your tax bracket.

I have spoken with many individuals who are saying Laser Eye Surgery has literally changed the way they see things – no pun intended. Some have said they cannot understand why they waited so long to get it done.

The Stratusmax Health Private Health Service Plan covers laser eye surgery. All you need to do is pay for the operations like you normally would with your other bills. Submit your receipt and claim form to your employer – assuming they are a registered member of Stratusmax Health. Your company will write a cheque from the company for the amount of the surgery plus a 10% administration fee and applicable taxes.

Once Stratusmax Health adjudicates the claim, the claimant will receive the reimbursement and the company will receive a receipt which will be 100% tax deductible for the company.

Is there a way for you to recover some of your dental and medical expenses? The answer is yes! The Canada Revenue Agency has a ruling which allows for a Private Health Service Plan and a Health and Welfare Trust, which will allow entrepreneurs, business owners, family members and key employees the opportunity to take out-of-pocket dental and medical expenses and convert them into a corporate deduction.

This is a strategy most financial planners, insurance agents or even your accountant will not talk about. Why is that? I do know the answer, but at this time will not address it in this post and will share the answers with you in a later post.

However, I can tell you by setting up a proper PHSP or HAWP with www.stratusmaxhealth.com can literraly save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars each and every year on your dental and medical expenses.

Do you remember the old saying “what you don’t know won’t hurt your”. In this case, “what you don’t know will hurt you” and cost you thousands of dollars each and every year.
